Arnold Transportation puts driver feedback into action.

ARNOLD TRANSPORTATION PUTS DRIVER FEEDBACK INTO ACTION

New programs added while previous favorites return

Driver feedback and suggestions are more than welcome at Arnold Transportation Services (ATS) as they are the source of many improvements for the company.

“We want to make sure our drivers are successful and happy here,” says Michele Homan, ATS recruiting supervisor. “Listening to their feedback and implementing their ideas lets them know how important they are to us.”

A paid Student Finishing Program has been launched recently giving new drivers the opportunity to learn from certified ATS trainers. “We have an excellent program for getting a career started the right way,” Homan says. “This is a paid program so trainees are earning while learning and after 90 days, they’re eligible for all ATS benefits and bonuses.”

In response to driver requests, the company has reinstated its pet policy.  “So many drivers really want their pet to ride along with them,” says Homan. “If they want to have their buddy on the road, we’d like them to have that.”

The ATS pet policy requires a $400 non-refundable deposit that can be withdrawn from payroll for added convenience.

Many ATS drivers asked the company to provide Pre-Pass, which the company added in the spring. “Pre-Pass saves a lot of time and keeps them moving,” says Homan.  “That is an advantage we’re very pleased to offer.”

Also, EZ-Pass has been added for runs in the Southeast and Northeast.

A rehire bonus program has been established for drivers who previously worked for ATS and have been gone 90 days or more. For returning to ATS, the driver receives $250 after first dispatch and another $250 after 30 days on the job.

ATS is offering a sign-on bonus for true owner operators. “We pay $1,000 after they pull their first load another $1,000 after they are on board ATS for 90 days,” Homan says.

Another bonus opportunity that has been added rewards productivity and safety. For drivers completing 30,000 miles in a quarter (2,300 per week), they earn an additional 1¢ per mile. If they have no preventable accidents during that time, another 1¢ per mile is added.

“Those bonus dollars really add up,” says Homan. “It’s a great way to reward our drivers for doing their jobs well.”

At the request of drivers, ATS has brought back its driver referral bonuses.  ATS pays drivers $400 when their referral is hired and an additional $400 after their referral has been on the job 90 days.

As the economy improves and freight levels pick up, Homan says ATS is continuing to request driver feedback and suggestions for new programs and improvements.

Other benefits for company drivers at ATS include high pay, great runs, excellent home time, life and disability insurance, health and dental insurance, vision plan, and 401(k) retirement.

Advantages for independent contractors are high earnings, no forced dispatch and steady freight. Plus, they receive industry low trade insurance rates, paid plates and permits, excellent fuel surcharge program, 24/7 road breakdown assistance, weekly settlements, and free fuel tax return filing. Arnold has openings now for both company drivers and owner operators.

ATS Implements Paperwork Scanning Program

February 2, 2010 – Arnold Transportation Services (ATS) has announced its move to implement truck stop and terminal scanning, enhancing driver convenience and control as well as shortening the company’s billing cycle.

"Scanning is totally new to ATS and was largely implemented based on input from our drivers," says Chris Hackler, Arnold Transportation Services Vice President of Safety and Recruiting, "One of the reasons we put scanning equipment at our locations was so drivers can easily get their paperwork in for payment. Our research told us that over 60 percent of our paperwork was being turned in at ATS terminals so it made sense to equip the terminals with scanners."

In addition, drivers can go to the nearest truck stop and scan all the paperwork for that delivery. This includes the signed BOL, unloading receipts, detention forms, OS&D documents, along with any completed Hours of Service documents.

"Utilizing paperwork scanning provides full control to our drivers," says Hackler. "They simply scan their paperwork, keep the receipt as proof of completion and they are assured of payment for their work within a specific pay cycle. Plus, the sooner we have a signed proof of delivery in our possession, the more quickly an invoice can be sent to the customer."

According to Hackler, Arnold has received very positive feedback as a result of the implementation. "Our drivers requested this program and are happy that we responded and made it available to them," he says.

Arnold offers company drivers high pay, great runs, excellent home time, life and disability insurance, health and dental insurance, vision plan, and 401(k) retirement among other benefits.

Independent contractors enjoy high earnings, no forced dispatch and steady freight. Plus, they receive industry low trade insurance rates, paid plates and permits, excellent fuel surcharge program, 24/7 road breakdown assistance, weekly settlements, and free fuel tax return filing.

Arnold has openings now for both company drivers and owner operators. Anyone interested in learning more about driving careers at Arnold are encouraged to call today.
